Fix a document
Upload a Word file, PDF or web page and get back an accessible version, plus a plain-English list of what was changed for you and what still needs you.

How this works
The document is converted to HTML, then repaired. The rule the tool follows is fix structure, never invent meaning.
Fixed automatically
Anything derivable from the document itself: heading hierarchy with no skipped levels, bullets typed by hand turned into real lists, bold pseudo-headings turned into real headings, table header cells with a scope, unique element ids, a language declaration, a document title, landmarks and a skip link, and the removal of color that fails the 4.5:1 contrast minimum.
Flagged for you
Anything that needs to know what the author meant. Alt text is the clearest
case: a tool can see that an image has none, but writing a plausible-sounding
description produces a document that passes automated checks and still tells
a blind reader the wrong thing. Images without alt text are given
alt="" — silent rather than misleading — and listed
for you to complete. Vague link text, missing table captions and unlabeled
form fields are flagged the same way.
About PDF
PDFs can be read, but a conformant tagged PDF cannot be written here without misrepresenting the result. Download the Word version, check it in Word’s own Accessibility Checker, then use Save as PDF with “Document structure tags for accessibility” enabled. That carries the heading styles, alt text and table headers through into real PDF tags.
